The door and architrave are ebonized cherry veneer over a mid-grey Valcromat. A solid cherry lipping continues around the door and is mirrored in the frame. A steel insert in the provides both a solid handle, adding to the substantial mass of the door, and a role in the invisible latching system. A pair of magnets embedded in the frame are sufficient to prevent the door swinging open, but provide the bare minimum of resistance to it being pulled or pushed by the user.
The steel is unfinished to allow for tarnishing from use. Over time, the untouched surface will dull; the handled will shine.
The cherry will darken to a deep orange-red, bringing warmth to the finish and a delicate contrast to the geometric design.
The graphic design for the door is an adapted abstraction of Tilman's #62 Plant A Tree from his Geometry Daily.
